Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at furiendflight@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

First thing first breath. Next think: Do I have the time and commitment needed to take in this pet in temporarily? If the answer is yes then please understand that Puerto Rico's Animal laws and animal culture is sadly quite different than other areas of the US.  Next grab your phone and add  Tourist in Puerto Rico and found a dog/cat; now what? | Facebook also  please check out Island Dog Rescue Inc's Airport  TOURIST RESCUE INFO | www.IslandDog.Org

Furiend Flight rescue missions operate in Northeast Puert Rico. We concentrate our efforts in Rio Grande (Hyatt Coco Beach area), Fajardo and Ceiba (Los Machos Beach and Roosevelt Roads areas).

Our headquarters are in Puerto Rico & Tucson, Arizona.

We fly our rescue pets to responsible adopters and partners nationwide.

One of Furiend Flight's goals is to provide much needed health care & life saving medication, to suffering animals on the island.
These services and medications are very expensive. By donating used or expired medications, you actually help us use our financial contributions to purchase, food, supplies and most importantly on sterilization surgeries, and rehoming.

We accept used expired, leftover medications.  We accept dog & cat medications, & human medications
(90% of pet meds are used in human medical care)

You can also help us by asking your vet to donate their expired medications to our cause!  Please contact us at furiendflight@gmail.com for mailing address.

Our daily rescues, foster animals, feeding routes, and even our independent rescuers FURiends are always in need of cat and dog food, supplies, medicine, kennels, trapping tools and so much more. You can always consider our Chewy and Amazon Wishlists or send Amazon gift cards or any donations online or to our offices stateside or in Puerto Rico:

Puerto Rico office: 539 Calle Marina Rio Grande, Puerto Rico or our

US headquarters office: 4615 E Calle Del Pantera Tucson Arizona 85718

Adoption fees are donations to help support the care of animals with Furiend Flight. If you were to pay a similar fee for an animal through a breeder or pet store, not only would you not be helping a pet in need, you’d be paying for intentional breeding that has led to an overpopulation of pets.

Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animal while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for our rescues group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The fee also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets.

An adoption fee can end up saving you money! Shelters and rescue groups usually cover initial veterinary costs to prepare the pet for a new home. Adoption fees often include:

  • Veterinary wellness visits and exam $100
  • Spaying or neutering $150-400
  • Distemper vaccination $20-50×2
  • Rabies vaccination $15-25
  • Heartworm test (for dogs) $35-65
  • Feline Leukemia/FIV test (for cats) $30-50
  • Flea/tick treatment $50-200
  • Microchip $35-80
  • Deworming $20-50
  • Collar and an identification tag $10-25
  • Health Certificate $60-100

TOTAL: $425-1000 (Few shelters or rescue groups would ask this much for an adoption fee.) This does not include the food, toys, bedding, kennels, flight carriers animals need while in our foster care. Each animal we take in costs our organization an average of $500-2500 each.

SOME SAVED NEEDS SURGERY AND UNPLANNED:

·         EMERGENCY VET VISIT $120-350 TO BE SEEN

·         HEARTWORM TREATMENT $300-850

·         FHO SURGERY $1000

·         UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTION APPROX $200

·         ICU $1400 PER NIGHT

·         PARVO /DISTEMPER $3000 MINIMUM

Free pets usually come with no medical care, so while you may initially save on an adoption fee, the medical costs will add up quickly. Purchased pets are also often not spayed or neutered and may not have a full set of vaccinations, adding to the expense.
